Sheila E. details an emotional experience at Paisley Park after she attempted to visit and pay respect to Prince. The famed musician uploaded a video to social media explaining that she was turned away from the home and studio turned museum during a trip last Friday (June 7), on what would have been the Purple Rain performer’s 66th birthday.
“I went in to celebrate him, and I wanted to go into the studio and do a live video, take a picture, and they said, ‘No,'” she explained in an Instagram upload. ”My heart’s broke. I can’t even walk into Paisley. That’s kind of messed up. … Not a nice way to celebrate his birthday.”
According to the Associated Press, the 66-year-old issued a statement on Monday saying she wants the museum to return her old drum kit, which Prince personally asked to “borrow” for display at Paisley Park.
Sheila E.’s comment section was filled with support, including messages from Luenell, Sharon Stone, MC Lyte, Arsenio Hall, and dozens of fans. The official account representing Paisley Park also left the following message, closed with a purple heart emoji.

According to its official website, Paisley Park is open every day except Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. local time. The platform states “Photos, video, or audio recordings are prohibited inside Paisley Park except for a few locations such as the NPG Club and the Soundstage” in the FAQ section online.
