Kevin Costner has been pushing hard to have his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, move out of their home amid their ongoing divorce. But he also wants to make sure she doesn’t take everything with her.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Kevin filed a motion to prevent Christine from removing certain items from their Santa Barbara home. The request has since been approved by a judge.
"Christine shall be permitted to remove her toiletries, clothing, handbags and jewelry,” the motion reads. However, it prohibits her from taking "any other items of property including, but not limited to, furniture, furnishings, appliances, and artwork."
Kevin’s attorneys said they previously asked Christine for an itemized list of the personal items she wanted from the household, but she only provided a “vague and amebous” list.
"For instance, Petitioner lists 'Plates and bowls/ silverware' without specifying which plates, which bowls and which silverware,” Kevin’s motion explained. “She lists 'Christine’s family heirlooms and/or gifts to her' but does not specify which items she believes were gifted to her (as opposed to both parties or the children).”
"She lists 'Christine’s personal electronic' but fails to specify what that means,” the document goes on. “Is a TV a 'personal' electronic? Is she referring to household computers? Which ones?"
Kevin is reportedly worth $250 million, while Christine has a net worth of $7 million, largely from her career as a fashion designer. Despite being married for two decades, Christine doesn’t stand to gain much financially from their divorce.
They signed an iron-clad prenup prior to their 2004 nuptials, which leaves the Santa Barbara mansion to Kevin in the case of divorce, since he bought it over a decade before their marriage.
The prenup doesn’t entitle Christine to spousal support; only a $1 million, one-time payment, which Kevin claims to have also transferred.
He’s also required to put $200,000 towards a new home for Christine and pay its first year of insurance and taxes. Until she buys a home, he’ll contribute up to $30,000 in rental money a month.
Until now, Christine has been refusing to move out of the $135 million until a child support agreement is worked out, as she says she’s currently unable to afford the lifestyle their three children have become accustomed to.
Christine is asking for $350,000 per month in child support, but Kevin is fighting her request, arguing that much of the money would go towards supporting Christine’s lifestyle, not the kids. Their divorce remains ongoing.
