Charlamagne Tha God wasted no time Monday morning (Aug. 14) bestowing the unflattering honor of “Donkey of The Day” to the Tiki torch bearing marchers that assembled this past weekend in Charlottesville, VA. The Power 105.1 host made it clear he wasn’t just casting a net on everyone who participated in the demonstration, but also the well-meaning white people who choose to remain silent.
“Here’s the thing and I saw Lena Dunham posted it on Instagram this weekend and I truly feel this way. She put ‘All white people are responsible for the upholding of white supremacy, and they will have to be responsible for the fall of it.’ Good white people, white allies who are decent human beings who don’t have a racist, bigoted bone in their body must use their privilege to combat prejudice. Period!” Charlamagne said. “If you’re not a cracker-a** cracker, if you’re not a white devil prove it through actions and deeds and words and lip service. I want to hear you denounce white devils. I want to hear you condemn cracker-a** crackers. That’s my message plain and simple.”
Over the weekend, hundreds of white supremacist and neo-nazis marched chanting “You will not replace us!” “White lives matter!” and “Jews will not replace us!” due to the removal of a statue of Confederate Robert E. Lee. James Alex Fields Jr was later arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder after the 20-year-old Ohio resident rammed a Dodge Challenger into a crowd of anti-protestors killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer.
While the president has made a statement against those who participated in the Charlottesville march, it was Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe who boldly told all white supremacist and neo-nazis to “go home.” Charlamagne Tha God also offered some Donkey of The Day shade to Trump who received support from David Duke, a formal imperial wizard of The Klu Klux Klan as well as the editor of a neo-nazi newspaper.
