Anton Yelchin died at age 27 early Sunday morning from a freak car accident in his driveway. The Russian actor was standing behind his parked car when it rolled backward and pinned him against his brick mailbox post and security fence.

The Star Trek actor was on his way to meet friends for a rehearsal, and they became worried after he didn’t show up. When they went to his house to check on him, they found he was killed by the vehicle.

Dozens of his costars have turned to social media to pay tribute to the young and talented actor after his life was tragically cut short. From taking us to another universe in Star Trek to making us cry in Like Crazy, Yelchin brought his personality, humor and zest to several memorable characters.

In tribute to Yelchin, here’s a look back at some of the actor’s most iconic movie roles:

1. Star Trek

Yelchin played the young prodigy Pavel Chekov in the 2009 Star Trek reboot and the 2013 sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. His role on the USS Enterprise is a navigator known for his amazing math skills, and in the second film, he gets promoted to chief engineer. He will appear posthumously in the third film Star Trek Beyond, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22.

2. Charlie Bartlett

In his one of his first major roles, he shared the screen with Robert Downey Jr. in the 2007 drama and played a teen amateur psychiatrist who rises in popularity at his high school by giving out advice — and medication — to his fellow students.

3. Alpha Dog

He starred alongside Justin Timberlake and Emile Hirsch as Zack Mazursky in the 2007 film, which was based on a true story. Yelchin took on the role of 15-year-old Nick Markowitz, who was kidnapped and murdered by drug dealer Jesse James Hollywood and his cohorts.

4. New York, I Love You

The 2008 rom-com was made up of 11 mini movies, each shot by a different director. Yelchin was part of the star-studded ensemble cast along with Bradley Cooper, Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bilson, Ethan Hawke and more. In the Brett Ratner–directed short, Yelchin played Boy, the ex-boyfriend of Blake Lively’s character, who finds out his prom date is in a wheelchair.

5. Like Crazy

In this 2011 love story, Yelchin played American student Jacob Helm, who falls for Felicity Jones’ Anna Gardner. The heartbreaking tale follows the couple after they are forced to live in different countries when Anna’s student visa expires. The actor also romanced another woman, Samantha — played by a then lesser-known Jennifer Lawrence — in the tearjerker.

6. Fright Night

Yelchin tried the horror genre when he played Charley Brewster in 2011’s Fright Night, a remake of a cult classic from 1985. The high school senior attempts to convince everyone that his neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire and when no one will believe him, he sets out to defeat Farrell’s character himself.
